LBS Round 8: ARBA defeat Heredia in the game between Top 4 teams- November 8, 2020

Heredia - ARBA 55-79 An interesting game for ARBA (6-0) which played road game in against 3rd ranked Heredia (4-4). Top-ranked ARBA had an easy win 79-55. ARBA dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Heredia's 28. ARBA forced 24 Heredia turnovers. The former international point guard Isaac Conejo (182-94) orchestrated the victory by scoring 11 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals. The former international forward Amaurys Ripool (196-86) contributed with 15 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Panamanian Amir Alvarado (198-84, college: Marshalltown) replied with 23 points and 9 rebounds and the former international power forward Daniel Simmons (194-80) added 9 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Heredia. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. ARBA have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 6-0 record. Heredia at the other side dropped to the fourth place with four games lost. ARBA are looking forward to face Perez Zeledon (#5) in the next round. Heredia will play against Alajuela and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Fourth ranked Siquirres (4-3) played at the court of 7th ranked Asobasca (1-6). Siquirres managed to secure a 5-point victory 96-91. Siquirres outrebounded Asobasca 57-35 including a 44-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Christopher Calderon (-89) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 32 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals and the former international center Harold Mitchell (200-83) who added 13 points and 19 rebounds during the contest. Center Dario Solis (192-3) responded with 22 points and 7 rebounds and Eduardo Murillo (-95) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Siquirres moved-up to third place. Asobasca at the other side stay at the bottom position with six games lost. Siquirres will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Asobasca will play against Perez Zeledon (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Second ranked Escazu (6-1) played at the court of 6th ranked Alajuela (2-7). Escazu smashed Alajuela 96-45 on Saturday. Escazu forced 27 Alajuela turnovers. The winners were led by the former international point guard Mario Herrera (174-97) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 23 points and 14 rebounds and the former international guard Daniel Shedden (190-96, college: MSUB) supported him with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Even 15 points by Caleb Sandino (-5) did not help to save the game for Alajuela. Juan de-Dios added 8 points for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Escazu have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 6-1 record having just one point less than leader ARBA. Alajuela lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with seven games lost. Escazu will meet at home bottom-ranked Asobasca (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. Alajuela will play against Heredia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
